Abstract

Many important properties of crystals are the result of local defects. In the crystal system, only a small part, a so‐called cluster, is essential for measuring local defects. Interestingly, the properties of a single cluster can deviate significantly from the properties of the same cluster embedded in crystal. To determine the properties within a crystal, an embedding potential is applied to the cluster. On page 211, I. V. Abarenkov and M. A. Boyko discuss embedding potentials for ion‐covalent crystals.
